Since 1994, I have grappled with my older son's diagnosis of borderline Asperger's Syndrome, as well as both of my sons receiving early identifications as highly gifted. I have searched and fought for services and placements for them. I helped create the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) Schools for Advanced Studies (SAS) program, which impacts 50,000 gifted children. I now work as an educational advocate representing parents of special needs children to obtain services from their local school districts. With my multidisciplinary background in education, law, health statistics, sociology, and biology, as well as my activism in gifted and special education, I particularly enjoy working with parents of challenging children who have borderline diagnoses. In addition, I work with the highly gifted population, who may have emotional issues as well as learning disabilities. This population is especially challenging because it is particularly difficult to qualify them for services. I am available for consultations, meeting, IEP's, and mediations. Please call for an appointment. Click here to view my Curriculum Vitae |
