Asperger's Education in LA
As parents of children diagnosed with Asperger’s, it’s not easy meeting the often-complicated physical, mental, emotional, and educational needs of our children.
I have searched and fought for services and placements for my son with a boarder line Asperger’s diagnoses. I am now working as an educational advocate representing parents of special needs children, such as those with Asperger’s, to obtain services from their local school districts in the Los Angeles area. With my multidisciplinary background in education, law, health statistics, sociology, and biology, as well as my activism in gifted and special needs education, I work with the highly gifted population, who may have emotional issues as well as learning disabilities.
You are the expert on your Asperger’s diagnosed child, No one knows more about him or her than you do. Your parental knowledge is extremely important to the educational process and finding the right school. The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), recognizes your importance and expertise as a parent. The law encourages your participation as an equal member of the team that will decide the educational placement, support, and services your special educational needs child will receive. From my experience as a parent of child with border line Asperger’s and from many years of working with educators, I have a fair amount of insight into the education process, and the advocacy tools that work.
