Getting the Right Education for Your Child from the Start
- Use your intuition
- Ask your pediatrician
- Get on the “mommy tomtoms”: network in the park
- Call Connections for Children for day care referrals
- Read through Los Angeles Family, Wet Set Gazette, etc., for ideas
- Is the school within walking distance? Will “playdate” logistics be easy?
- Is the director open to frequent communications & observations?
- Do teachers have something nice to say about each child at the end of the day?
- How are conflicts resolved?
- How are children with special needs accommodated?
- Try a parent-and-me group or spend a day visiting to get a feel for the school: is it a good fit?
- Review educational philosophies for personal compatibility: Montessori, Waldorf, Reggio Emilia, etc.
- Keep an eye out for the next educational step:
